Project Planet Happy Earth Day

Project: Planet

Mar 25, 2021, 20:08 PM by Dana Racine
Hello, wake up! If you think about it, isn’t earth day every day? Whether you call this giant sphere we reside in he, she or it, the bottom line is we all need to do our part to positively support our home, you know this planet. Not only this spring but year round. How, you say? Let’s take a closer look…

By drinking out of reusable water bottles you can save 167 plastic water bottles per year. Going one-step further if you sip from your own reusable straw 584 disposable plastic straws could be saved from the landfill each year. Another way to do your part is to bring tote and cooler bags to the grocery store. Besides keeping around 700 plastic bags out of the ground, the lined cooler bags keep your perishables cold much longer to provide a double bonus of less spoiled groceries to toss. Speaking of food, repurpose those leftovers into divine delicious dishes. Approximately 30 to 40 percent of the U.S. food supply become waste, according to the USDA. This one is a double down, keep more trash out of the garbage bin and better yet, it saves you money.

We’ve taken a closer look at actions to take which lead to cleaner living, but what can we do to celebrate this 51st anniversary marking Earth Day? Well, start by heading outdoors and planting something. Even if space is limited, potted plants make any environment feel more alive. Have space to go bigger? Plant an entire garden this spring which could include items like herbs, vegetables, flowers, trees-oh the possibilities! Just think of all the fresh summer dishes in your future. Maybe your thumb isn’t overly green, take a walk around your neighborhood instead. You can use the Native Plant Finder website to look-up vegetation and butterflies in the local area.

Feeling creative or maybe you want to share your love for mother earth with a friend? Here are ten festively designed pages to print, color and hang to bright any room this spring. Even Martha Stewart wants in on the action, check out her 24 easy ways to go green each and every day. Still have energy left? It’s time for spring cleaning! Don’t toss, donate or better yet list gently used items online to make some extra money another double down. Now that the clutter is out of the way it could be time for those upgrades.
